Is the current approach to CSR in the Western Australian resources sector too focused on measuring social impact as a desktop study, meeting regulatory requirements (particularly in the environmental and indigenous area) and enhancing corporate reputation? This approach to CSR is quite different to a commitment to incorporating a CSR philosophy into the organisation’s DNA. Having said this, I think we have come along way in the past decade. The next logical step is for resource companies to make a commitment to the implementation of CSR thinking within their organistions using the same techniques that generate the preferred culture around health and safety.
